You will need to practice with Cisco equipment such as routing and switch. You can use a simulation if you don't have access to equipment. However, for many, lab time and studying may not be sufficient to pass a challenging entry-level or middle-level exam such as Cisco's CCNA. Here are five tips that will help you pass your Cisco CCNA.

1. Troubleshooting is a must-know skill.
In the exam, you will either be asked questions about configuration or troubleshooting. The troubleshooting part is more challenging. Expect to see multiple routers, and some kind of routing issue. These scenarios will require you to act quickly.
2. Don't be intimidated by the questions you don't know.
The questions that I was asked during the test were not included in either the study guide, or the test objectives. This could have been an exam question that does not count towards your score. It can be frustrating to get these questions that say «I don’t know the answer». Don't let it affect you. Just keep going. 3. One word can make all the difference.
It is possible that you will be asked to select the «best response» based solely on one word. A single word can change the meaning of a phrase. Think about the meaning and intention of each question. Answers do not include words added accidentally. Take a look at the entire answer.
4. It is important to know the subject well before you can teach it.
You know the material well if you can explain it to someone else. When you are able to explain the material to another person, you know you understand it. It is an excellent way to learn and confirm your understanding of a topic. Try it. Explain key concepts to someone you know. Then you can test your understanding of the material.
5. It is important to learn the commands, not just the commands.
IOS commands are often memorized by beginners who are new to Cisco equipment, or other types of equipment. This is different from knowing WHY the commands are used or WHAT the commands do in the background. Focus more on WHAT and WHY instead of HOW. Understanding the processes behind commands will help you prepare for the future.
